Do I need a special phone service to use a vanity number?

No. Your vanity number forwards to whatever phone you already have. Cell phone, office line, VoIP, any number you choose. You don’t need to change carriers or buy any equipment.

The one warning: don’t ask your cell carrier (T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T) to provide toll free service. Cell companies are not built for toll free forwarding and they’ll tell you it can’t be done. That’s what NumberBarn is for on our side. After you buy out a toll free number, you’ll need a VoIP provider (Twilio, OpenPhone, Grasshopper, etc.) for the toll free forwarding. A local number you can transfer directly to your cell carrier and make it your actual cell number.
